On October 19 -21, 2001 we had a display at the Massachusetts
Orchid Society
annual orchid show. This was the third year that this show was held at Tower
Hill Botanic Garden
in Boylston, MA.

Our 2001 annual orchid auction was held at the monthly
meeting on October 13. Our auction chairperson did a fantastic job labeling many of
the plants to show us what the flowers would look like.

The New Hampshire Orchid Society participated at
the Deerfield NH Fair from September 27 thru
30, 2001. We had many flowering orchid plants, newsletters, growing supplies, and books displayed along
with a table top waterfall and fogger.

Our 2001 picnic was held on August 11 at P&J Orchids in Candia, New
Hampshire. Our members were able to enjoy good conversation and good food
as well as browsing and shopping in P&J's greenhouse.

The New Hampshire Orchid Society took part in the NH Federated Garden Club show
in Bristol, New Hampshire on August 17-18, 2001. The NHOS exhibit was part of the Division II special
exhibits entitled "Enhancing the Queen's Garden." Our society
was awarded four ribbons, a first, second, third and an honorable mention.

The orchid
caravan is an organized road trip to visit private greenhouses and other sites
of interest to NHOS members. On May 19, 2001 our orchid caravan took a change from the
usual and headed outdoors to view native orchids in the wild. On July 20, 2001 we headed down to Danielson, CT
to visit
the retail establishment of Logee's Tropical Greenhouses and then to the wonderful
Garden in the Woods in Framingham, MA.

On March 23 -25, 2001 we had a booth set up at
the Seacoast Home and Garden show in Durham, NH. NHOS member PK Dulong volunteered to present three lectures about growing orchids
at the show. All three talks were well attended and generated much interest
about orchids and the New Hampshire Orchid Society.

On March 31 - April 1, 2001 we participated in the Amherst
Orchid Society show. NHOS members won 7 out of a possible 15 best in class
trophies. Congratulations to members Dave Moreton who received an HCC/AOS
for his Paph. Mint Chocolate and Pat Thomson who was awarded an AM/AOS for his
Phrag. besseae.

Our 10th annual orchid show The Allure of Orchids was held March 9 - 11, 2001. Shown here is
the NHOS exhibit which won the
People's Choice trophy. In spite of two snowstorms and many other challenges,
attendance was up 15% with a final total
of 1332 visitors during the three day event.

On February 17 - 18, 2001 we participated in the Cape and Islands Orchid Society
show, "A Blizzard of Orchids". It was a long snowy winter for many of us here in New
Hampshire, and the show was a welcome sight during the month of February.
Congratulations to all who contributed plants for our display, NHOS members garnered 26 ribbons!

This show table photo was taken at our February 2001
meeting. Each month our members bring in their flowering orchids for
informal judging by the show table chairman and his
assistants. A complete list of recent
show table winners, Dick Valentine Hobbyist
award winners and show table guidelines
are always available on our NHOS web site.
