On October 4, 2003 we held our annual orchid auction.
The auction is one of our most popular activities, and many great plants were
available for the bidders. Here is one of our auctioneers looking for that
next bidder.
The 2003 Massachusetts

show was held during the Halloween weekend featuring the
theme "Ghosts, Goblins and Orchids". We
had a great collection of plants this year and won many ribbons for the orchids
in our display. Our special recognition, however, was for the
pumpkin carvings in our display!
On September 14, 2003 Chuck Crisler (NHOS Vice
President) and Jean Stefanik (NHOS Education & Conservation) represented the
NHOS at the future site of the Rockingham Botanical Garden.
We once again set up a display in the horticultural
building at the Deerfield New Hampshire Fair.
Our 2003 picnic was hosted by members Chuck and Sue
Andersen of Mason Hollow Nursery.
We enjoyed each others company while feasting on the many dishes and treats
brought by our members.
Our 2003 show 'A Treasury of Orchids' was held once again at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in
Nashua, NH. Here is one of our trophy winners, Best Miniature Specimen won
by PK Dulong for Crepidium mieczyskawi ‘Glasshouse Polka Dot’. Not
sure which one? Well this beautiful miniature orchid is grown in the
terrarium shown at the bottom of the photo.

During December 2002 we were saddened to learn of the sudden and
unexpected death of our NHOS president, Dave Moreton. Dave was also a very
active member of his community, and was remembered at the Jackson New Hampshire
snow sculpting competition for his friendship and love of orchids. While not an NHOS activity, we were pleased to
receive permission to share a photo of this prize winning entry.
The 2003 Cape and Islands Orchid Society
show was held January 1 - 2 with the theme 'Joy of Orchids'. We
received 17 ribbons for orchids in our display including an HCC/AOS award and a
trophy for best Cymbidium.
