How to Grow Endangered Showy Lady’s Slipper Orchids in Your Garden. Students from the NH Academy of Science will first present their research on the conservation of endangered lady’s slippers of the Cypripedium genus. The students will have two planter boxes and will then demonstrate how they prepare potting soil and plant 45 orchid seedlings into each planter box. They will give instructions on where and how to place boxes in the ground to successfully establish a showy lady’s slipper sanctuary in your home garden. Basics of Orchid Care and Repotting We’ll focus on the importance of proper pot selection and using the correct growing media for your type of orchid or your particular growing conditions. Daryl will also talk about how to water, fertilize and care for your orchids. At the end of the talk Daryl will repot an orchid and leave time to answer any questions you may have.Presented by: Daryl Yerdon, NHOS member |

Orchids Are Different But Not Difficult Ever wanted to grow an orchid or have you already taken the plunge and are enjoying their beauty? Come out and hear all the tricks for great orchid culture. Beth Davis from Waldor Orchids will be here to tell us all about orchids being unusual and exotic but relatively easy to grow. Beth will be presenting basic culture information that will include a handout, as well as doing a hands-on potting demonstration. There will be an emphasis on transplanting, grooming, and some of the different ways to re-pot your orchid. Presented by: Beth Davis, Waldor Orchids |

Orchid Breeding and Seedling Culture Bob Cleveland will demonstrate how to pollinate an orchid flower and explain how to care for the seed pod and produce seedlings from the pollination. Bob will then have a hands-on workshop to show you how to plant and care for orchid seedlings. A limited number of seedlings will be available to allow you to attend the workshop and bring the newly planted orchid home. Presented by: Bob Cleveland, NHOS Member |
